On February 2, 2003, Betty Jeanne was one of two female "winners" of
the charity raffle on her Semester At Sea program. The prize was for
the captain of the ship to shave their heads as the ship crossed the
equator. Supposedly this was in accordance with ancient seafaring tradition,
for the first time a sailor crossed between hemispheres.
Second prize (open to everyone) was to jump into a pile of fish guts.
